High Point Village High Point Village Resort is a Minocqua resort located at the edge of Bass Lake which is part of an extensive state and county woodland recreational system. It includes Timm's Hill, the picturesque highest point in Wisconsin. It is a wonderful place to enjoy the natural beauty of the Wisconsin northwoods. You might be a bit surprised when you step into Price County, pleasantly so with its numerous hills and ridges. Don't let the snow fool you, this is a year round spectacular. July 26, 2006, updated August 1, 2007 Editor's note: During my first visit in the late winter of 2005, I just drove around, took photos, and basked in the sun of a beautiful winter day. In September 2006, and again in late December 2006, I took my wife and mother-in-law to stay there a few days. We stayed in the "Northern Sky" lodge, which has a terrific view of Bass Lake and Timm's Hill. With the fall scenery, it was breathtaking, so breath-taking that I am going to update my story on Timm's Hill with the fall photography of our walk around Bass Lake to go with the winter photos. I am going to do the same here. I will simply plug in the September and December 2006 photos to show the contrast. (010207) Addendum: On March 3, 2007, High Point Village sponsored the "Timm's Hill Trudge," a snowshoe race through a course set up in the Timmi's Hill-Bass Lake area. The race started at the High Point Village Resort at 10 AM and prizes, food and medals were awarded thereafter. The Village invited us to attend. Regrettably, we arrived too late, after the race was over, but in time for the awards. We took some photography of the ceremonies and have added those to this page below. Addendum: As you've guessed by now, we love the Timm's Hill area and High Point Village, which includes the town of Ogema. We stayed at High Point's largest cabin, the Bear's Den, in July 2007, so we've added some summer shots to our collection below. (080107)
Late in the winter of 2005 we visited Timm's Hill in Price County, Wisconsin's highest point. While driving along Rustic Road 62 (RR62) we bumped into one great find, High Point Village, which has a direct look at Timm's Hill across Bass Lake. It is run by Kathy and Lyle Blomberg.
The opening photo is of the main building to High Point Village, a hotel, lodge, and a location for retreats, reunions, banquets, and weddings. It is open year round, and sits facing Bass Lake and Timm's Hill. The left side of this building hosts the reception and gathering areas, while the right side hosts the "Catch a Dream Inn," to wit, lodging. There are other buildings up the ridge to the rear, behind this building and to the left and right. Here are a few.

Bass Lake, across RR62, great for starting on a ski trail, or skating, snowshoeing, ice fishing in the winter, and boating and swimming in the summer.
Timm's Hill across Bass Lake from the "Bear's Den," High Point Village's newest cabin, perched higher on the ridge behind the main building: winter, fall and summer views. Timm's Hill Trudge Awards Ceremony March 3, 2007
It was a cold and blustery day, perfect for the trudge. Nonetheless, about 120 people turned out for the 11th Annual Timm's Hill Trudge. This is a three-mile snow-shoe race, men and women race separately. Kyle Schmidt was the overall winner of the men's event, competing in the 30-39 year-old category. Michayle Heil, 15, of Medford, was the overall women's winner.
This is a conference-banquet hall kind of a lodge at the High Point Village Resort. The awards were presented inside. As you can see, they had a great day for the Trudge.
This is just outside the conference-banquet hall, and, as you can see, was the starting point for the race. They had a good amount of snow, and the owners, Kathy and Lyle Blomberg, had their hands full clearing the trail before hand.
A hearty welcome to come in and join the festivities.
That's Kathy Blomberg in the green, with the scores and the list of winners, and with a helper to hand out the "Spirit of Tim's Hill Trudge awards. We'll now present a series of photos of winners and the crowd. Unfortunately, we do not have their names, but they certainly were a good looking crew!
We are guessing, but we believe this is Michayle Heil, 15, of Medford, the overall women's winner, because she has a bouquet of flowers. We worked hard to get her photo, and each time we had her in our sites, she would move. We ended up with two shots, one where she turned her head away from the camera just as we pulled the trigger, this one blinking. We chose the blinker.
This is the "Chili Lady," a mighty popular person at the lodge. Her chili has a nice zip, and, on a cold winter's day in the North Country, wonderful warmth, just like Jean Conrad, the "Chili Lady."
We'll never know, but we wonder whether this young lady just got a full view of the guy with the painted face behind her!
This is a "brain trust" outside, sipping some cool ones.
Some kids outside, doing what kids do best --- playing in the snow.
We stood out there, watching this young man plan is sled ride down the hill. Frankly, we were a bit worried about him taking the plunge, as the hill was kind of steep, lots of trees, and we did not know whether he knew what he was getting into. Just as he was about to make his move, the sled slid from his hands and went down the hill without him. You can see the young lady pointing to the evidence of his blunder. As we left, we shot these two finals. High Point Village is truly a wonderful place.
Perhaps you'll enjoy these buildings and others close by adorned by sumer's beauty.

We highlight the great things about Wisconsin, which are also things that reflect so well on America --- its people, land, and culture. |
