Wisconsin’s Counties - a Photo Portfolio - Waukesha County

Waukesha
Waukesha is 15 miles west of Milwaukee, but when you drive through, you think you are most certainly in a fabulous rural setting, no doubt due to all those who escaped Milwaukee to settle here. Delafield and Oconomowoc are most certainly two places to visit. The northwest part of the county is known as Lake Country. The county includes 37 municipalities within 576 square miles of suburban and rural areas, outstanding highways. You are 60 miles east of the state capital, Madison, and 100 miles north-northwest of Chicago.

Delafield

We stayed in Delafield on our first visit to the county. Historic Delafield was established in 1837. Much of it looks newly built, but in the historic tradition, with a Williamsburg style downtown. It is truly a charming place to visit, lots of shops, restaurants, and places for outdoor activities.

These photos will show you around the downtown area, starting with the Delafield Hotel, where we stayed, first class in our book.

You can see the Delafield Hotel in the center background. This gives you a feel for the Williamsburg style.

Okauchee

Okauchee is a small town just east of Oconomowoc and just northwest of Delafield. It has the pleasure of sitting on Lake Okauchee, in Waushara’s lake country. We entered from Delafield on Wisconsin Ave.

As we entered town, we approached a circle and saw this splendid classic home, for sale! We went around the circle staying on Wisconsin Ave. which went to the left into town.

Of course, I immediately spotted the Spitfire Pub and Grill, but too easy to partake. It looked like my kind of place though. After this we wandered over to the lakeshore. Fabulous, as you’ll see.
