Wisconsin’s Counties - a Photo Portfolio - Richland County

RichlandCounty
Richland County, created in 1842 from Iowa County, is named for its rich farmland soil. Located in southwest Wisconsin, the county seat is Richland Center. It is located in the unglaciated hills of the driftless zone, with many rivers, streams, valleys, bluffs and geologic formations. Flanked on its southern border by the Wisconsin River on its way to meet the Mississippi, the county is rural and most picturesque.

I did a story a few years back about the
“Oak Ridge Vineyard and Weggy's Winery,” located on top of a ridge in Richland County, with a distant view of the lower Wisconsin River clearly in sight. Lots of good photos there. I show a few of my favorites.

I also did a story a while back on
Bear Valley Perennials, which I think has since gone out of business. Againa a few of my favorites.

I came across a limestone quarry, drove in, got out, walked around, and thought I was in another world, like the American Southwest, waiting for Duke Wayne to pop out. It was Kraemer Co.’s Householder Quarry just to the east of Richland Center.
