Wisconsin’s Counties - a Photo Portfolio - Outagamie County

Outagamie
Located in east-central Wisconsin along the Fox River, near the northern end of Lake Winnebago. The region was once a hunting and fishing ground for several Native American tribes. "Outagamie" is derived from the native word meaning "dwellers on either shore." Much of the county's population lives within the Fox Cities, the focal point for the region's commerce and industry. The water power of the Fox River has enabled what is a world renowned paper industry. That said, there is a diversified manufacturing economy and a strong agribusiness.

Stephensville

This is a photo of the typical landscape around Stephensville, from Route 76; fairly flat, but with some roll to the land, wonderful, large farms so commonly seen throughout much of central Wisconsin.

WolfR

The Wolf River basin extends through 11 counties. The Wolf River flows in a southerly direction and joins the Upper Fox River just above the Lake Winnebago Pool lakes. This is a photo of the Wolf from the Wolf River boat landing, located on County S just northwest of Stephensville. Looking away from the water, toward the road, but standing at the landing, this is what one sees on an early October day in Outagamie County, Wisconsin!

Therns

On the way back to Wausau, we spotted the pumpkin field at Thern's Apples on County M off County S between S and Highway 54. Once again succumbing to the reality of being a city boy, this editor couldn't believe the size of these pumpkins that had not been picked. The date was October 8, 2005. Here are some zoomers on these bad boys.
